Which is better - to to have a name with a meaning, or to not know a meaning for your name?

is it better to have a name which means something, or a name like in the west where meaning doesn't matter?

in china, in india, and i'm sure many other countries, it is easy to figure out what a person's name means. for example in india, it might come out of the hindu religion.

in the west, for example australia, this practice is not followed, and the child is not taught the meaning of their name, but simply given it, and they use it, as a label, and that's it.

which is better?

to have a name with a meaning, or to not know a meaning for your name?

it's an interesting cultural difference i think.

Which is better - to to have a name with a meaning, or to not know a meaning for your name?
I don't really care what my name means. I am not going to be influenced in my everyday life by that meaning, since my parents didn't give me my name thinking of its meaning. So, for me, my name might as well not have any meaning at all.
Reply:it is better to have a name with a meaning !
Reply:my name is MEL陌KE and its meaning is QUEEN isn`t it good

Reply:The former. However, Western names do have meanings- we just don't care to know what it is. (If you look up your name, I'm sure you'll find either a Biblical, Latin, Old Engish or some other root.)

Mine means 'Fortune' or 'Happiness'
Reply:i don't even know the meaning of my name but one thing is for sure....i was really freaked out when i learnt that it's an irish name since i love ireland

if name has got some meaning the child many times start thinking like that and start acting according to that too
Reply:Well... The fact you dont know the meaning does not mean it has no meaning at all.Better to have a name with some cool meaning known to everyone and be worth it.
