Baby name meaning,is it really that important?

I know a guy named Leroy. Now the meaning of Leroy is "king" but he is hardly a king.In fact he never completed high school,he failed ninth grade two times and then just dropped out.I don't even think he ever completed his education. Therefore i don't think name meanings effect your child's life that much.

Don't get me wrong,it is a good idea to have a nice or positive name meaning but i don't think it will change the course of a life.

Baby name meaning,is it really that important?
name meaning doesnt matter. my dads name has a beautiful meaning and he is not a beautiful person. at all. no effect whatsoever
Reply:The name itself and the so-called attached meaning will not define someone's life nor will it help make it better or worse. However to some people, naming their child a particular name holds personal value. That in itself is a different kind of importance. Aside from that, like others have said, as long as you don't name your kid something with a negative outlook such as a lame name, a name people could make fun of, or some other variation of such a name, then you are fine.

While the name meaning (pre-defined definition) holds no true course for a person's outcome in life, some people like to have a good meaning attached to their name. Others could care less. As parents, I am sure some people feel that it is important to give their kids a good name with a good meaning, sometimes if only to make themselves feel better about the name choice.
Reply:you are right.. I still like to make sure I choose a positive name and with the millions of baby names out there you can find a unique name and still one that doesn't mean ''squit eyed or '' Lame'' the name Claudia sounds nice but I wouldn't consider it because it means ''lame one..'' I am sure lots of Claudias are beautiful but why tempt fate by giving the child a bad start with a name that has a negative meaning when so many nice names are there to choose from.. because if I was the child.. when older I would want to look up my name and if it had a negative meaning I don't know if I would forgive my parents.. when they could have chosen with a bit more care and forethought.... because there is bound to be something that is unique, nice, and positive....xxxx
Reply:This is how i look at it:

If the name has a nice meaning then bring attention to it. If it don't, then just act like you dont care about the meanings. The name i child has wont make them a certain way. The parents probably just liked the name Leroy AND realised it has a cool meaning. But some names are great but have sucky meanings, so just neever talk about them meaning or anything, never bring it up, pretend it dont matetr, lol.
Reply:I think it has to do more with WHY someone is naming someone something. His mom may have named him Leroy because she liked the name and did not even know the meaning. Versus someone who knows the meaning, and treats their son like a "king" giving him the best of everything, and expecting the best from him.

I didn't decide on my son's name until after he was born. The other two I named before. I named him Jaron (which means to sing) because when I looked in his eyes, the joy I felt made me feel like singing. What is remarkable, is that he is the ONLY person in our family with an amazing singing voice!
Reply:Maybe his parents thought he would suceed in life. I'm nameing my child Trinity Isabella. Sounds like a queen and Trinity stands the Tri-force of the game Zelda. Wisdom, Courage, and Power. A babys name is as important as you make it to be. No one can pick the perfect name and be 100% that the child will suit the name. It's all on luck. Picking a name for a baby is a fun game for the parents. But remember that the child will be stuck with that name forever till they change it when they get older.
Reply:Names have meanings because of the words they're rooted in. Did you know that Sharon, Sarah and Shara all have the same meaning?

Name meanings will not dictate how your life goes. Neither will your astrological sign, your numerology, your palmistry, your symmetry, or any other method of divination out there. But it's fun. Why rain on people's parades?
Reply:I guess I think of it as calling someone what they're name means everytime... for instance when someone says Jordan, what they are really saying is "river of life", or Sarah which means princess or royalty. I definitely wouldn't name my child that meant something harmful or terrible, because in my eyes everytime their name is being called, they are being called what their name means. Kinda complex I guess.
Reply:in a way i think it is important!

my friends name is felicity...the meaning is happiness.

this is a true story

her mother died of cancer when she was 12 and then a year later her father died of meningococal. she was sad as you would be, but she kept looking on the bright side, she was thinking about what her parents would want.

she is now one of the happiest people i know!

Reply:I think that some parents should have to live with the names they inflict on their kids. I met a guy named Orangejello. I went to college with a girl named Kitty.

Give your kids names that you like but PLEASE keep them "normal".
Reply:It's not important to me its just a conversation started... i hate when i be like oh thats a nice names and they're like yeah it mean the shining light...i'm thinking like what was yo mama smokin...ppl be thinking of anything
Reply:Really parents think picking a name with a good meaning will help encourage a child but that isn't really the case. Some kids though do seem to fit their names.
Reply:lol no baby names are just for fun ^^ those name meaning are back from middle ages which was thousands of years and years ago. they made it up ^^ leroy is a cute name though
Reply:it will definitly not. There was a fotball player whose last name was weak, he wasnt weak but he still went and changed his last name to strong.
Reply:Meanings for Names mean nothing.

A name is a name and when you look at the baby, it either fits or it doesn't.
Reply:No name meaning don't change the person but still... You don't want I name that means something horrible.
Reply:No, it's not important.

Just don't pick a stupid-sounding/looking name!
Reply:No its not, pick a name that wont sound stupid and a name that you like and you should have no problems!
Reply:Who said that it does???
Reply:no, why would it be?
