Which name is best and does meaning really matter?

My husband and I are expecting our second son in a few days. We are still undecided on a name.

Ryan (little king) Scott

OR

Cameron (crooked nose) Scott

We like both but are having a hard time deciding between the two. Does the meaning of the name really matter or should it depend on what we like best?

Which name is best and does meaning really matter?
I like Ryan Scott best. It just sounds good together.

but Cameron Scott sounds fine too. The meaning of the name doesn't matter and i think crooked nose sounds cute. So go with whatever name you like as if the meanings weren't there.
Reply:Name meanings do matter. I have a friend named Naomi (pleasant) and she is very pleasant to be around. And it doesn't even have to match up to the actual meaning of the name my friend Danielle (God is my Judge) while she is a Christian and God is her judge the story of Daniel in the lion's den matches her personality better as I like to say "The lions don't mess with her". So also think about the people you know who are named Ryan Scott or Cameron Scott; which person do you want your kid to act more like?

Also think do you want "little king scotsman" or "crooked nose scotsman"? (Scott means either scotsman or tattoo)

My vote is for Ryan Scott because I think Cameron is more of a girl's name. But since you both seem to like the name Scott why don't you make that name his first name and then pick another name to be the middle name or you could just do what my cousins did, they picked out a couple of names and then waited until their daughter was born and then decided what name she looked the most like. So you could wait and see if he looks more like a Ryan or Cameron before deciding.
Reply:I think it should depend on what you like best and not necessarily the meaning. Most people won't even know what the meaning of a name is unless you tell them. I like both your names, though actually I like them for girls. I have two co-workers named Ryan (one male, one female) and there are two little girls in my kids' preschool named Cameron, but also a boy Cameron in my neighborhood. So I think both names are pretty unisex.

Of the two, I like Cameron better. It just gives me the impression of a cute little boy and as an older child, someone smart. Ryan is okay but not as good - but that's just my opinion. Either will be great! Good Luck!
Reply:Personally, I love the name Ryan. It's my cousin's name, haha.

But it's really great, for both a little baby and an adult!

The meaning is a big plus as well.

Cameron isn't bad, but it's really common, and well sort of feminine in my opinion. The meaning makes it worse in my opinion.

I don't think the meaning makes THAT big of a difference. It's not like someone is going to go up to a guy named Camerson and say "OMG you're name means crooked nose!!!"

Don't worry, just pick the name you love.

Maybe wait until you see your son, and pick the name that fits him best?

Or ask the older brother/sister to be which name they like best?

Congrats!
Reply:I wouldn't really look at meanings unless you wanted to name your child "hope, or loved" then maybe look at names that have those meanings. But, it's interesting to see when you name your child once you see them and look at the meaning later. I got the privilage to name my brother - I chose the name 'Aiden' this was 6 years ago. Now, looking at the meaning "little fire" totally resembles his persaonlity, and his strawberry blonde haircolour.
Reply:I think the meaning is just a bit of fun. I suppose your son would like it better if he had a cool meaning to his name. On the other hand i know a guy called Cameron and he likes his name so it's really up to you. I like Cameron Scott personally because it has more syllables and sort of rolls of the toung.
Reply:Meaning is not the most important thing in my opinion becauseI don't think people will be like the "Nice to meet you Cameron. Are you aware that your name means "crooked nose"?" :D Because not everyone is going to know the meaning. That said, I much prefer Ryan anyway. And it doesn't hurt that it has a good meaning. :D
Reply:For some people the meaning really matters. If it doesn't really matter to you then it just doesn't. Personally I like Ryan better than Cameron, but that's because Cameron is becoming very feminine these days. Ryan will always be masculine to me.

Good luck and congratulations!
Reply:I like Ryan Scott together better but I have a soft spot for Cameron its my sons name, but very overused now a days. Meanging dont mean anything after you pick out the name if that makes sense. When there 13 will you be screamig Cameron Scott get in here or hey crocked nose, lol!
Reply:I don't think the meaning means a thing unless you want it to. Go with what you like best and want to call you son for his whole life :)

If I went my meaning, Marie means "bitter"... but it's a family name that will be passed down if our next is a girl.
Reply:well my names meaning is very important to me. If it ment crooked nose I would have been upset. So if it's between the two I'd pick Ryan. It's a cute name anyway.
Reply:Yes and no, I would never use Cameron or Kennedy because of their meanings, Kennedy means deformed head!!!

So definitally Ryan Scott, it is an amazingg name %26lt;3
Reply:I think it really comes down to what you like best. I think they are both nice names. I really like Cameron Scott a little more than Ryan Scott.

--My husband's name is Cameron. :)

Good luck!
Reply:I love both names

I like Ryan a bit more than Cameron

Ryan Cameron or Cameron Ryan works
Reply:Ryan

meaning does not matter at all, unlesss you are super religious and want your kid to be like a saint or something.......
Reply:It should depend on what you like best, not the meaning. I can see why you are having a hard time deciding between the two! They are both very nice names, but I think Ryan Scott sounds better.
Reply:Yes the meaning should matter. I like Cameron because it flows better, but I like Ryan b/c i've always loved tht name more.
Reply:The meaning does NOT matter, so pick which name you all like best.

One of my favorite girls names is Kennedy and it means ugly head!

But it's such a cute name so who cares. (:
Reply:Meaning never meant anything to me because no one asks/cares unless one is very religious! I love Cameron.
Reply:i think it should depend on the way you liike it because not many people will know the meaning of the names unless you tell them.

I like Ryan Scott
Reply:I'd go w/ ryan cameron scott @ this late date! It's a great combo, and no more choices to make! Good Luck!
Reply:It should depend on what you like the best.Personally I like ryan scott because that'ss my cousins name.

Good luck!
Reply:Ryan is best and meaning doesn't matter.
Reply:Meaning doesn't matter much to me, but I still like Ryan Scott better.
